Unique Aspects:
So I am a little ashamed to say that after living in the Mother City for over 6 years, I have never once been to Jackal & Hide. Why this has happened I am really not sure but possibly because the restaurant sits up quite high on Kloof street and is not easily viewed from the street, which doesn’t really give you much perspective as to what the vibe is within its walls.
Well I am happy to say that it is very much worth a visit. The restaurant offers some nice looking dishes but it needs to be noted that these do come at a price. You are looking at around an average price per meal of around R85 I would say. I personally think that heading here for a meal is not the right thing to do.
I recommend rather paying Jackal & Hide a visit for some cocktails or pre-drinks before a night out on the town. The staff are all very friendly and are more than willing to make some custom shooters or cocktails for you if you just point them in the right direction as to what you favour in a drink. The crowd is also very chilled which makes for pleasant drinking.
The venue is well put together with some great big outside tables where you will find yourself drinking or dining with 2 to 3 other groups of people, creating quite a festive experience. If you are looking for a little more privacy, tables for 2 to 8 also exist, dotted around the inside and outside of the restaurant.
To sum up, I feel quite guilty for having taken so long to visit Jackal & Hyde and it will certainly become a more regular venue on my drinks spots in the city.
