Unique Aspects:
The City Bowl Market or Hope Street Market as it is sometimes also referred to is truly one of the more pleasant markets to visits in Cape Town. Although perhaps it may not have as many exhibitors as other inner city markets, the exhibitors that do attend all have quality product and together provide a cross section of most of the types of food and drink that you could find, from crepes to biltong, to freshly squeezed juices and homemade cheeses.
Points to mention for this market include the very friendly nature of the exhibitors who make the “tasting” experience as comfortable as possible. In addition, my one gripe with most markets is the poor access that you have to any exhibitors due to the mass attraction of the events and thus over-crowding. The City Bowl Market has yet to reach this uncomfortable attraction value and perhaps most importantly allows attendees easy access to any stalls.
Whether the organisers have taken a decision to limit the amount of exposure to the market to keep its unique low traffic nature or whether it has yet just to really take off I am not sure, but whatever the case, I recommend taking a stroll down to the City Bowl Market for any fresh fruit and veg requirments you may have. It is a great little market and provides a nice start to a Saturday morning.
